When I first saw this doll, I did not know if I would be able to make her appealing again. I knew that she would have been made in the 1930’s and would have belonged to a young girl during the turbulent war years of the 1940’s. I remembered hearing that my Christian grandmother sent care packages to struggling relatives in Germany during these hard times. This made me think of how much a little German Jewish girl might have been struggling during those years. And because of her resemblance to Shirley Temple, I enjoyed researching and learning about Shirley Temple dolls and movies and incorporating Shirley into this story.
As always when I work on restoring a doll, I was reminded that I am beloved in my Heavenly Father’s eyes, when I feel beautiful and when I do not feel beautiful.
